Archaic Arcade
Essential Questions:
- Why does pop culture (entertainment) continue to look back to history for inspiration?
- How can we best use gamification to invoke historical interest?
- How can we use ratios/fractions/proportions to help build wooden arcade pieces?
- How can we best design functioning mechanisms for each arcade piece?
- How has mathematics and science allowed us to make technological advances in the gaming world?

Modern Myth Pictures
Here are some pictures that I took throughout the project process.
Winter Exhibition 12/18/2014 5:00-7:00
Ready for story time? Come visit The Little Shop of Homers Bookstore on 12/18. Find out how our class has reinterpreted the ancient Greeks' most dramatic divas in our Modern Myths.
Modern Myth
Essential Question: How can we make characters that are thousands of years old fit into modern storytelling mediums?
Check out my google site to see the progression of the project and to get an idea of how your DP should look. https://sites.google.com/a/hightechhigh.org/reatehumanities/
Product: You will create a new story using a mythological figure from Ancient Greece. Choose a storytelling medium that best displays your story (comic book, graphic novel, children's picture book, online comic, webisode).
FIRST STEP: CHARACTER ANALYSIS
As a class we will read and annotate Homer's Hymn to Artemis. From those notes we will decipher her strongest characteristics. Then together we will come up with some modern characteristics that we think would make her an even more interesting character.

The Book of Me
Have you ever been told don’t judge a book by its’ cover? Have you ever then rolled your eyes at the adult-like person who just told you that and check out the covers anyway? We tend to be very visual creatures and we like to find things that are appealing to the eye - and you know what, someone probably spent a lot of time and put in a lot of effort to come up with that cover.
The first project of the year will have you looking closer at what makes you you! Design a book cover that best shows who you are: what you like, past experiences, whatever YOU think is important for the class to know about you. And like all proper books, yours will have a short author biography on the inside so people can get to know you a little better. This project will be your first chance this year to express yourself artistically in writing and in crafting as well as to look into class drafting and critique practices that will be used again and again throughout the year.
So, what is the title of your book?
